Purpose of the verified AGOV login

Some online services of the Federal Administration require a verified AGOV login. In this case, the identity of the user is uniquely verified.

Identity verification is carried out online via ID/pass verification without live interaction with an agent, based on an official identity document (ID card or passport). A successful verification is valid for 5 years.

, the verified data (first name, last name, date of birth, gender, nationality and optionally the AHV number) can be viewed under «Personal details».

Requirements for ID/pass verification online

An AGOV login
A smartphone or a physical security key (FIDO2) with which you registered your AGOV login. If you have not yet registered an AGOV login, you will need one of these devices to register it, which will then be verified after registration.
A valid identity card or passport according to IDnow: Country list
A device with camera, microphone and internet connection*
A quiet environment with good lighting conditions
A payment method (or a «voucher code» issued by a Federal Administration unit). Costs CHF 14.50 (incl. VAT).

* Internet it is recommended not to perform video identification via VPN connections or from networks that heavily restrict network communication (e.g. corporate or administrative networks such as the Federal Administration network). This may prevent proper communication, especially access to the microphone and camera from the web browser.

Process of ID/pass verification online

Start of ID/pass verification online (including selection of payment method or voucher code. The payment receipt will be sent by email)
Capture of the identity document (ID card or passport)
Recording of a selfie video
Entry of the AHV number and place of birth (optional / recommended)
Subsequent verification of the data by an agent (up to 24 hours)
Email notification of the result (positive or negative)

Important notes
If the ID/pass verification online is rejected, the process must be restarted. Additional costs may apply. A new attempt without private payment is only possible if a new voucher code is provided by a Federal Administration unit.

What is a verified AGOV login? ▼

A verified AGOV login confirms that your identity has been uniquely verified. The verification is carried out online via ID/pass verification using a valid identity document (ID card or passport).

How does ID/pass verification online work? ▼

You capture your identity document (ID card or passport) and record a short selfie video. The data is then reviewed. The verification may take up to 24 hours. Once completed, you will receive an email with the result.

Do I need a live agent for verification? ▼

No. ID/pass verification online is carried out without live interaction with an agent.

What does a verified AGOV login without AHV number mean? ▼

This means that your identity has been verified using an identity document. Your name, date of birth, gender and nationality are verified. The AHV number is not stored. This level of verification is sufficient for many online services of the Federal Administration.

What does a verified AGOV login with AHV number mean? ▼

This means that, in addition to identity verification, your AHV number has also been verified. This level of verification is required for online services with higher legal or security requirements.

Do I need to perform a new ID/pass verification if I already have a verified AGOV login? ▼

No. If you already have a verified AGOV login, no new ID/pass verification is required. You can directly proceed with the subsequent verification of your AHV number via the following link:

Is the AHV number mandatory? ▼

No. The AHV number is optional and only required if an online service demands higher legal or security requirements.

Which identity documents are accepted? ▼

Official identity cards and passports according to the IDnow country list Country list

are accepted. Residence permits, driving licences, SwissPass and student IDs are not accepted.

What is a voucher code? ▼

A voucher code can be issued by a Federal Administration unit and allows you to perform ID/pass verification online without private payment.

Please note that in step 2 of the verification process, you must select the option «I have a voucher code».
