FED-LOGIN totally smartcardless -
Replacement of password & Mobile ID

Target group

This guide is intended for users who use FED-LOGIN totally smartcardless with password and Mobile ID as their login method.

Avoid losing your FED-LOGIN

The login method password and Mobile ID will no longer be supported by FED-LOGIN as of 10 May 2026. You must register and use FED-LOGIN Access App or a security key (FIDO2) as a login method for your FED-LOGIN as soon as possible, and no later than 10 May 2026. If you do not do this, you will no longer be able to use your FED-LOGIN for logins. Restoring your FED-LOGIN requires a complex process, including a new, paid identity verification via online ID check.

Avoid losing your FED-LOGIN in the future as well

If you have registered only one login method for your FED-LOGIN, losing this single login method (for example due to defect/loss/reset/replacement of your only smartphone or security key) will result in losing access to your FED-LOGIN. Restoring your FED-LOGIN requires a complex process, including a new, paid identity verification via online ID check. Avoid this situation by registering more than one login method for your FED-LOGIN. Any combination of multiple personal smartphones with FED-LOGIN Access App, multiple physical security keys (FIDO2), or combinations of smartphone with Access App and security key is possible.

Instructions

Only applicable when using federal administration PCs ▼

On federal administration PCs, you are automatically authenticated through FED-LOGIN using Active Directory Single Sign-On. This authentication is too weak for performing this process. To successfully complete the process, the automatic login (Autologon) in FED-LOGIN must be deactivated so that you can log in with a password and Mobile ID. You can prevent the automatic login by setting the so-called Autologon cookie.

Before opening eIAM-MyAccount and logging in, go to and activate the Autologon cookie for the PROD environment (see image).

  2. In the FED-LOGIN Access App tile, click Register.

  3. To ensure that you are the authorized owner of the FED-LOGIN account registering the Access App, a renewed login using your Smartcard is required. Click Continue.

  4. Using the device on which you wish to install the FED-LOGIN Access App, scan the displayed QR code corresponding to your operating system.

Alternatively, search for the “FED-LOGIN Access” app in your device’s app store.

Once the installation on your mobile device is complete, click Continue in MyAccount.

  5. Open the FED-LOGIN Access App on your mobile device. Press “Scan QR code” in the app.
If your operating system asks whether to allow the app access to the camera, you must grant permission. Then point your device’s camera at the QR code.

This authentication method protects the app from unauthorized use and ensures that only you, as the authorized device owner, can use the app for logins.

Select your preferred authentication method on your mobile device:

    1. PIN authentication – Set a PIN (this PIN is independent of your device PIN).
    2. Face ID / Touch ID – This biometric method is recommended because it is both convenient and secure.
If it cannot be used during a later login, the app will require entry of the device PIN.

After configuring the authentication method, a confirmation message appears.

  6. To finish, click Back to Login & Security.

Security Keys (FIDO2) are physical devices (e.g. USB stick or NFC token) that allow you to log in securely without a password. They verify your identity by inserting the key or touching a sensor. The key protects against phishing and works only on the registered websites or services.
