Instructions: FED-LOGIN – Register a security key (FIDO2)

Click on the link MyAccount and select the tile FED-LOGIN.

Note: Within the Federal Administration networks, you are automatically signed in to MyAccount via Active Directory Single Sign-On. This authentication method is too weak for managing login methods. MyAccount will inform you with a message and provide a button to log in using strong authentication.

Navigate to the Login & Security tab.

Click the Strong authentication button and select the FED-LOGIN tile again in the eIAM login selection.

Navigate to the Login & Security tab.

In the Security key tile, click Register

Instructions for adding a FIDO security key. Re-authenticate, name and register your Passkey.

To ensure that you are the authorized holder of the FED-LOGIN account when registering the security key, you will be required to log in again using a strong credential.

Click Continue.

Give your security key a name so that you can manage it later, then click Continue.

Read the information about the Windows Hello security key, and click Start to begin the registration.

Display to select the type of security key.
Select security key.

Select the type of security key, click Next, and follow the remaining prompts until registration is complete.

Your security key is now registered.


You can now use your FED-LOGIN from the internet without a Smartcard, using your registered security key.


Log in from a private device outside the federal network using your registered security key instead of a Smartcard.

This enables access to data with a high protection requirement (QoA50).

What should I do if my security key no longer works?

If your FIDO security key no longer works or if you no longer have it, obtain a new one and follow these steps:
  1. Log in using your Smartcard at eIAM MyAccount and remove the registration for the affected security key.

    Remove the FIDO security key.

  2. Register your new security key as described in the instructions above.
